Universal Science Benches for the Nigerian Ministry of Education, 2006-2007

Project Value - £1.4 million

Overview

Designed by Findel Projects consultant, Phil Godding, the Universal Science Bench (USB) is the only science and ICT laboratory powered by renewable energy. It can therefore provide science and ICT teaching facilities in any location where mains power is unavailable, unstable or unreliable. It is ideal for developing countries that see science and technology education as a priority.

Key Features of the Universal Science Bench include Independent Power Supply, Constant Power, Water Supply, Gas Supply, Low Voltage Supply, and a Trespa Athlon TM chemical resistant work surface.

In 2007, to meet the Ministry of Education's requirement in Nigeria to invest in science and technology, Findel Projects supplied 72 Science benches to 36 schools in Taraba State, Nigeria.

Solution

Findel Projects provided the schools in Taraba State with a complete solution from product supply to full installation and training. At concept stage, the relevant people from Taraba state visited a showcase school equipped by Findel in the UK. Findel Projects, along with USB designer Phil Godding, managed the installation of the 72 benches in the 36 schools in Taraba State. To complete the process, a full training programme covering the capabilities of the USB was provided by Phil Godding to support the teaching staff and ensure the equipment was utilised to its full potential.
